Our Boho Family Beach Session
Recently, we had the chance to get our yearly family photos taken out in Destin, Florida and they turned our perfect. Seriously. I have made it a goal to get in as many family photography sessions as I could before we get pregnant because I want to remember us as a family of four before our lives totally change. Plus, many of us do not realize the importance of photography itself. One day, all you will be left with are images and memories… that is for most of us who will be able to remember! LOL. That is why having photoshoots done ever so often is a must do.
We chose Brianna Merritt Photography of Destin, Florida and Seaside 30A area whom I actually used the year prior to document my love for my children as well as their Christmas minis which turned out amazing. I was so blown away by her style of family photography that it was a no-brainer to book her as my go-to Destin Florida photographer again!
Speaking of Destin, Florida real quick… our beaches are some of the most perfect and beautiful to have your family photography taken. My family photographer chose Princess Beach which is a location on the long strip in between Destin and Fort Walton Beach that a lot of people do not think to stop at. The sunset was just stunning, I tell ya!
Okay.. I guess you want to see all of the photos? Well, there are too many to share, but I will share with you my favorite family portait that Brianna Merritt Photography shot! Here it is:
How dreamy is this?? My and Everly’s outfits were from the photographer’s closet (she keeps a ton of cute outfits for clients to choose from if needed) and my son and husband wore Old Navy. I wanted it to be super simple, laid back, and of course all boho vibes! The session lasted less than an hour and Brianna Merritt was so good with my kids. Very patient and felt like an old friend, I would say, which is something you MUST have in a family photographer. You WANT to be comfortable with your photography and vibes shouldn’t feel cold or off. I also love that she included her husband, Blake, to shoot some behind the scenes videos for us to use on our phones! So sweet.
Here are a few things to look for and ask when chooseing a family photographer:
- Experience. Ask for their portfolio! If you are doing a beach shoot, ask to see other beach shoots. Ask them about their expertise. Dont be afraid to interview them, too!
- Communication and connection. A good photographer will keep you updated on how the images are going and maybe even send a sneak peek or two! And of course… I have always enjoyed choosing a photographer who felt like a friend which is why a consult is always a good idea before the actual shoot so you can meet.
- Editing style and delivery time. Every photographer edits in their own way and you either love it or hate it. This is why really studying their previous work helps you decide if they are a good fit. Also on average how long does it take to get your photos back? Its HARD to wait as a client, I get that. But the magic does not happen overnight-it does take time and effort but be sure to ask and state your expectations.
- Creativity. Does every portrait in the photographer’s portfolio look the same-the same poses and staging? Do they pay attention to detail? What I love in a photographer is candid moments because those are real and come off soooo pretty. They know what is important.
- Flexibility. Great photographers are prepared to deal with setbacks like rain or a screaming toddler so its nice if they have a “Plan B.”
Would you like to see more shots? Here you go!
I know what you are thinking… the beach is just the beach and can be kinda… boring…. well… maybe so.. with the wrong family photographer! With Brianna Merritt Photography, family shoots are just magical. She also does couples photography as well as maternity, newborn, and more, but Destin Florida family photography is her thing! See these gorgeous captures of my husband and I. I am already planning on framing one for my hallway on a canvas.
If you are in the Destin Florida area and you are looking for a family photoshoot while in Destin that is canvas worthy, you will want the best family photographer around and that is clearly Brianna Merritt Photography. She is the best Destin family photographer in the panhandle and Emerald Coast for sure.
