Cobb Salad Jars for Meal Prep
Over the past week, I was craving salad! I decided to try out this simple salad jar hack to see if it really worked and kept the salad fresh.
Over the past few years, I saw people meal prepping their salads in large mason jars and I had always wanted to do that! So I got me a few mason jars and tried it out! I chose a basic cobb salad with a chicken breast on the side for my lunch.
In order to do a salad jar, you have to contruct it in layers-no matter what type of salad you are prepping.
The bottom layer is always the dressing first. I used ranch for my salad by combining sour cream, a ranch seasoning packet, and diluting it with water to make it thinner and more dressing like.
The next layer of the salad jar was the heartier veggies and ingredients. I put the chopped boiled eggs and grape tomatoes here. This would also be reserved for like meats, chicken, carrots, cucumbers, etc.
The third layer of the salad jar was the lighter ingredients. This is where I added my cooked, crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar cheese.
Lastly, the top layer of my salad jar was romaine hearts. You always want to put your salad greens (spinach, kale, watercress, arugula) on top to keep it fresh and from getting soggy.
Here was my jar below!
The verdict? The salad jar was perfect and it actually keeps fresh… even4 days later! I love taking these salad jars to go when I am out and about. To eat your salad, simply shake the jar! That is all.
